Behold Your King Advent - Week 2: Day 3

Hymn

Scripture reading

Micah 5:2

Narrative reading

Luke 2:1-20

Devotional Reading

“He shall stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord.”

The ruler born in Bethlehem was a lowly babe, dwelling in an animal barn. He would become the good shepherd (John 10:11), and shepherd the flock given to him by His Father (John 10:29).

When the angels appeared to the local shepherds that were out tending to their flocks, they prompted the shepherds to go worship the true good shepherd. At once, they went to behold their superior: Jesus. The good shepherd would one day lay His life down for His sheep; becoming the lamb sacrificed to redeem His people. This is in fulfillment of what the prophet Micah had written 500 years prior.
