Abram, who would later become “Father Abraham”, received a word from God in a vision. God was making a covenant with Abram and with his offspring. This covenant was for the increase of a nation, one born from Abram’s own body. Mary knew that the child growing in her womb was in fact the fulfillment of God’s covenant to Abram. Jesus’ new covenant would be established by the breaking of his own body. He would lay claim to the nations, ransoming them back to himself.
