Anna was an 84-year-old prophetess, dedicated to worshipping at the temple and to prayer. She was widowed at a young age, and likely lived a life of mourning. The loss of her husband made such an impact, that she never remarried.
While Jesus was being dedicated in the temple that Anna was worshipping in, she began to give thanks to the Lord and rejoiced in the coming of her redeemer. The year of the Lord’s favor had begun. Anna was now being comforted and had been given a garment of praise in exchange for her faint spirit. All who come into contact with their redeemer experience the same exchange.
