Scriptures: Matthew 26:17-29 & John 6:53-58

A sacrament is an indispensable part of our weekly Lord's Day worship.

God instituted two sacraments, or ordinances, for His worship services; they are baptism and the Lord's Supper.

The Lord's Supper, also commonly called Communion, is given to us as a weekly sacramental feast.

The title 'The Lord's Supper' refers to Christ as possessor or Lord of the meal being given.

'Communion' refers to the action taking place during the meal; God communes with His people.

Both of these concepts and titles are accurate depictions, and are helpful to our understanding of this holy feast.

The Belgic Confession, Article 35 comments on this topic and provides profound insights.

"This banquet is a spiritual table

at which Christ communicates himself to us

with all his benefits.

At that table he makes us enjoy himself

as much as the merits of his suffering and death,

as he nourishes, strengthens, and comforts

our poor, desolate souls

by the eating of his flesh,

and relieves and renews them

by the drinking of his blood."

This meal is reserved for God's covenant people, and is to be administered by an ordained, male, Minister of God.

When the Minister administers this meal, he is functioning in a role that is holy, set apart.

Just as Christ broke His body, for the nourishment of His people, so the Minister mirrors this sacrifice by breaking bread.

Just as Christ poured out His blood for the relief of the church, so the Minister pours the wine for the revival of his congregation.

It is given to God's people only; only they can enjoy fellowship with God.

This meal is not to be taken lightly, but it ought to be taken with delight.

Too often this meal is served with a side consternation and trepidation.

The sacramental feast is not a sorrowful feast, it is a celebration, and should be consumed as such.

God never meant for this feast to be about introspection and self-reflection.

If we partake in the Lord's Supper with such things as our primary focus, it is no wonder why our spirit is so sullen.

Our focus ought to be on Christ and what he has invited us into.

When our focus becomes less selfish, we can actually enjoy the Supper as it has been prepared for us.

During the dispensing of the Lord's Supper, God's people should be filled with laughter and hope.

At great cost and with much toil, communion has been restored by our Savior, Jesus! Rejoice!

He has set His table, and sat us beside Him! Rejoice!

This sacramental meal has been given to us that we may rejoice and be glad in it.

Numbers 6:24‭-‬26

Meal: Fiesta Chicken Pie, Creole Cornbread Muffins, & Chocolate Chip Dip


Fiesta Chicken Pie

Prep and Cook Time:1 hour + 30 minutes to cook chicken

Serves: 6-8

1 box Penne pasta

1 cup Sour Cream

2 cups of shredded Cheddar Cheese

1 cup Salsa

1 Tablespoon Cumin

1 teaspoon Garlic powder

1 teaspoon Onion Powder

1 can Corn, drained

1 can Black Beans, drained

1 Small Onion, chopped

2 Chicken Breasts fully cooked and shredded

Salt and pepper to taste

Red Pepper Flakes (optional)

Avocado (optional)

Tomato (optional)

Cilantro (optional)

Lime (optional)


In a large pot of salted, boiling water, cook pasta to al dente. Drain and set to the side.

In a large skillet or pan, on medium heat, fully cook chicken breasts with the chopped onion and salt & pepper. Shred or cut into bite sized pieces, and place in a large bowl. Add in remaining ingredients and mix well.

Pour the contents into a 9x13 baking dish, cover with foil, and bake at 350° F for about 40-45 minutes.

Serve with desired fixings on top.

Creole Cornbread Muffins

Prep and Cook Time:1 hour + 30 minutes to prepare rice

Yields: 2 dozen muffins or 1-8 inch cast iron skillet

2 cups cooked Rice

1 cup Yellow Cornmeal

¼ cup Onion, chopped

1 Tablespoon - ¼ cup Jalapeno Peppers, OR Green Bell Pepper (whatever spice level you prefer), chopped

1 ½ teaspoon Salt

½ teaspoon Baking Soda

2 large Eggs

1 cup Milk

1/4 cup Oil or melted Butter

1 can Cream-style Corn

2 ½ cups Shredded Cheese


Prepare your muffin tins or skillet.

In a mixing bowl combine all ingredients together, mixing well. Be sure all your ingredients are well incorporated.

Divide into your muffins tin or skillet, bake at 350°. Muffins should take 12-15 minutes and the skillet will take 40-45 minutes to bake.

Serve warm or cool.

Chocolate Chip Dip

Prep and Cook Time: 20-30 minutes

Serves: 8-10

1/2 cup Butter, softened

8 ounces Cream Cheese, softened

1/2 cup Brown Sugar

1/4 cup Powdered Sugar

1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract

1/4 teaspoon Salt

3/4 cup Mini Chocolate Chips

Serve with:

1 box Graham Crackers


2-4 Granny Smith Apples


Your favorite Cookies


In a mixing bowl, whisk together butter, cream cheese, and brown sugar.

Add in the remaining ingredients. Serve with graham crackers, Apples, cookies or whatever else you choose.

Serve at room temperature or chilled.

Store covered in the fridge for up to 3 days.
